Three men sentenced to federal prison for dealing drugs

A U.S. district court judge recently sentenced three men to several years in federal prison for their roles in a North Carolina drug trafficking ring. The defendants were indicted on drug conspiracy charges in the Eastern District of North Carolina in June.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the defendants, who are residents of Wilson County, were involved in a drug-dealing operation that distributed crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin and marijuana in Edgecombe County, Nash County and Wilson County. Some of the evidence entered against them included recorded telephone conversations in which they discussed drug transactions and conspiracy to commit drug transactions.

The first defendant, age 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and heroin and distribution of heroin. The second defendant, also age 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin and distribution of heroin. Prosecutors said both men sold around 10 bricks of heroin, or 1,000 individual baggies, each. They were sentenced to approximately four and a half years in prison and three years of supervised release. The third defendant, age 26, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute crack cocaine. He was sentenced to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. The investigation was conducted by several federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Wilson Police Department, the Nash County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
