3 charged with selling drugs out of day care center

Three North Carolina residents have been arrested for allegedly running a drug operation from an in-home day care center in Fayetteville. The arrests came as the result of a one-month investigation by police.

Members of the Fayetteville Police Department's Gang Unit executed a search warrant at the home of a 27-year-old man on July 16. He was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including trafficking cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon. On July 17, officers executed a second search warrant at a home on the 1000 block of Ronald Reagan Drive. The site houses an in-home daycare center, but the raid took place after the center had closed for the day. The search allegedly yielded 100 pounds of marijuana, a half kilogram of cocaine, around an ounce of heroin, 10 guns, more than $70,000 in cash and a 2013 Audi Q7 SUV.

During the raid, the 34-year-old owner of the day care center was placed under arrest. She has been charged with trafficking heroin by possession, trafficking marijuana by possession and other crimes. The co-owner of the day care, a 32-year-old man and an employee with the U.S. Postal Service, was also arrested. He has been charged with multiple crimes, including conspiring to traffic in heroin and cocaine. Authorities said that the investigation remains open.

Drug charges are very serious and can lead to harsh consequences if a conviction is obtained. However, a Raleigh, North Carolina, drug charges criminal defense lawyer may be able to help a drug defendant avoid conviction. The lawyer could examine the evidence and poke holes in the prosecution's case, which could get the charges dismissed. If the evidence in the case is solid, legal counsel could still negotiate for a plea deal that reduces the charges and penalties.
