Rapper facing drug charges

Many people in North Carolina are fans of rapper Jim Jones, the co-founder of Dipset and the star of "Love & Hip-Hop: New York". He was arrested on June 20, 2018, and faces gun and drug possession charges after a brief pursuit by police prior to a traffic stop. The 41-year-old performer is accused of receiving stolen property, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of dangerous drugs to be kept in their original container.

Jones was arrested by Coweta County sheriff's deputies at a traffic stop after they pursued a Mercedes SUV which allegedly drifted into the emergency lane. When the police neared the vehicle, they say that the interior was smoke-filled and that they could smell a scent of marijuana. The SUV driver pulled away, but it was forced to stop after a police car pulled in front of the vehicle. The SUV collided with the car before coming to a stop.

Inside the vehicle, Jones was one of three passengers. The driver of the SUV was reportedly "incoherent", and Jones claimed that he had earlier told her to pull over. Inside the vehicle, deputies found 23 Oxycodone pills, Percocet, THC oil and marijuana. They also found a loaded .25 caliber pistol and a 9 millimeter handgun, which had been reported stolen earlier in March. All four of the people in the car were booked into the county jail after a medical examination.

People who are accused of drug offenses could face severe consequences, including incarceration, fines and a criminal record. When these charges are combined with other criminal allegations, there may be even greater concern for the future. A Raleigh, North Carolina, drug charges criminal defense lawyer can help a defendant to present a strong defense and challenge the police and prosecution's assertions.
