Multiple drug charges aimed at North Carolina man

A 51-year-old man and known member of the Pagan's East Coast motorcycle club remains in jail under a $2 million bond after being charged on June 18. A news release from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office described the raid on the man's home in Midway Park that produced 214.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a level two trafficking amount.

Information shared by the Carteret County Sheriff's Office led Onslow County investigators to target the man. In addition to methamphetamine, authorities reported seizing from his home 8.3 grams of hydrocodone, five firearms and $4,253 in cash. A high-capacity shotgun was among the seized firearms. The alleged offender has a previous conviction in another state for cocaine trafficking. As a felon, he could not legally own the firearms allegedly found at his home.

Authorities chose to charge the man with methamphetamine trafficking, manufacturing methamphetamine, heroin trafficking, hydrocodone trafficking and using a home for drug activities. He also received a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia. Law enforcement agents continue to investigate his alleged operation and could arrest more people.

Prosecutors typically level many charges at people accused of operating drug distribution schemes. A person in a situation like this might benefit from the representation of a criminal defense lawyer. A lawyer could scrutinize evidence to determine if it realistically supports every charge. Any overreaching by a prosecutor might be challenged by a defense lawyer, who would ask for some or all charges to be thrown out. A lawyer could also attack evidence that might have been gathered during an unlawful search. Strategies like these might enable a defendant to obtain a lenient plea deal or achieve an acquittal at trial.
