Drug operation leads to 13 arrests

North Carolina authorities have arrested 13 people during a two-day drug sting dubbed "Operation Hammer Time". The defendants are accused of possessing cocaine, marijuana and firearms.

During the operation, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies executed four search warrants in the Happy Hill area of Rocky Mount and one warrant in the southern area of the city. While searching the properties and vehicles involved, officers allegedly uncovered 90 grams of cocaine, 2.4 pounds of marijuana, 300 rounds of ammunition and 14 firearms.

The defendants face various drug and firearms charges. The drug charges include simple possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and distribute, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule IV drug, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. The firearms charges include possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon. "Operation Hammer Time" was executed by a number of law enforcement agencies, including the Rocky Mount Police Department, the Nash County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Public Safety Community Corrections Division and the State Bureau of Investigation.

While drug distribution charges are very serious in North Carolina, defendants may be able to help their situation by contacting a criminal defense attorney. An attorney could work to suppress evidence or cast doubt on witness testimony, which could lead to a dismissal of charges or an acquittal. In certain situations, legal counsel could negotiate for a plea deal that reduces the charges, which could significantly lower the penalties involved.
