Police take 3 into custody on drug charges

Authorities in North Carolina say that three people were taken into custody on drug charges after an investigation that lasted for several months. This was done on March 15 by the Duplin County Sheriff's Office and the Mount Olive Police Department. A female who was taken into custody was charged with trafficking as well as possession with intent to distribute or sell methamphetamine. The woman was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and her bond was set at $106,500.

One man was also charged with possession and trafficking of methamphetamine as well as maintaining a dwelling and vehicle to store controlled substances. His bond was set at $106,500. Another man was charged with possession of marijuana as well as maintaining a vehicle to store controlled substances. His bond was set at $1,000. At the time that the three were taken into custody, authorities took 56 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana and thousands of dollars.

Individuals who charged with drug possession or distribution may face a significant disruption to their lives even if they are not convicted. A drug charge could result in spending time in jail awaiting trial, which could have implications for remaining employed or retaining parental rights. A conviction may result in jail time, a fine or other penalties as allowed by law.

Those who are facing state drug charges may benefit from hiring a criminal defense attorney who may be able to ask that evidence be suppressed or take other steps to help obtain a favorable outcome By casting doubt on witness testimony or other evidence, the prosecution may be more amenable to a plea deal. It could also result in a person being acquitted by a jury.
