North Carolina sheriff's deputy charged with armed bank robbery

If you drive about two hours west of Raleigh, you'll arrive in Rowan County. That is where a Davidson County sheriff's deputy recently shocked the North Carolina law enforcement world.

The deputy is accused of the armed robbery of a Rowan County bank. As you probably know, armed bank robbery can be charged as a federal crime that can result in many years in prison upon conviction.

The deputy was fired from his job soon after his arrest.

According to law enforcement officials, on a recent weekday afternoon the deputy walked into a Rockwell bank, took out a firearm and told a bank teller that he wanted money. Moments later, he reportedly drove away in a silver Ford Mustang.

Just five minutes later, he was taken into custody by Rowan County deputies, a news report stated.

The Davidson County sheriff said he is "as shocked and appalled as anyone else" by the allegations against his former deputy. "His employment with our agency gave no indications of this type of behavior," he added.

The former deputy had worked in the civil division of the Davidson County force, responsible for the transport of prisoners.

Those facing federal charges -- whether it is robbery, drug violations, white collar crimes, firearms violations or other alleged federal crimes -- should understand that the federal government has almost unlimited resources for prosecution. Before you speak with an investigator or prosecutor, speak with a skilled attorney experienced in defending rights and freedom in federal courts.
