Federal prosecutors accuse 10 in Raleigh of gang crimes

They are said to have their operation set up east of downtown Raleigh on Haywood Street. They are 10 people accused by federal prosecutors of being members of a gang known as Black Mob Gangstas/Donald Gee Family, an offshoot of the Bloods.

The Department of Justice said in a press release that the 10 now face an 11-count indictment that includes allegations of racketeering conspiracy, murder with a firearm, murder in aid of racketeering, drug trafficking conspiracy, extortion, witness tampering, obstruction of justice and more.

The Justice Department assisted the FBI, Raleigh police department and the U.S. Attorney's Office in the investigation that they say has resulted in charges against the street gang's most powerful members.

Prosecutors say the group is responsible for the murders of two rival gangsters, including one who was a 16-year-old drive-by shooting victim.

Those arrested include males and females, and range in age from 22 to 34.

They are said to have been operating in the Haywood St. area for more than a decade, with senior gang leaders allegedly charging weekly or monthly dues from low-level members. A portion of the dues was used for the acquisition of guns, phones and drugs, with some of the funds being used to pay members' bills while they were in jail or prison, the News & Observer says.

All of those named in the recently unsealed grand jury indictments have been taken into custody, the article states.
