North Carolina youth pastor charged with sex crime

It is a two and a half hour drive south of Raleigh to get to North Carolina's New Hanover County. That is where a youth pastor was recently arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties online with an 11-year-old boy.

News reports stated that the boy is not a member of the church where the 30-year-old worked until he was fired after reports of his arrest became public.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect "unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did commit and attempt to commit a lewd and lascivious act" on the boy. The alleged act took place Nov. 20 - Nov. 21, a news report stated.

The youth pastor, who is originally from Raleigh, was with the church for two years.

If the pastor is able to post a $100,000 bail, he will be prohibited by an order issued by the New Hanover County District Court from accessing the internet.

Law enforcement officials indicate that their investigation is not yet complete and said it is possible that more charges will be filed against him at a later time.

North Carolina statutes indicate that a person convicted of the Class F felony can be sentenced to 10 months to 41 months (3 years and 5 months) in a state prison.

Clearly, a serious charge such as this requires a serious defense. The skilled and experienced criminal defense attorneys of Dysart Willis will help you understand the best legal options available in your case. You can schedule a consultation by contacting our Raleigh office.
