Former North Carolina teacher accused of sex offenses

Memories are strange things. Over the years, human memories can lose clarity and distort the truth while a person remains adamant that he or she correctly remembers the event. On some occasions, a person could become convinced that something happened based on another person's suggestion. Because of this, accusations of crimes, including sex offenses, that come decades after the alleged event could be complicated to investigate and prove. One retired teacher in North Carolina will likely be working to defend his innocence after he was accused of  crimes that occurred over 30 years ago.

The alleged victim has recently accused his former middle school teacher of sex offenses. Based on these accusation, the now-retired 71-year-old man has been charged with multiple sex offenses. The offenses reportedly took place over the course of two years, beginning in 1981.

A representative from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has said that the investigation has just begun. They believe they have identified additional victims and say they are continuing to search for more. The school board that employed the man says that it received no complaints regarding the man during his time of employment. He is currently being held on $5 million bond.

Allegations related to suspected sex offenses are serious.  They warrant an investigation, but in all cases, there must be sufficient evidence to prove that a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in order to gain a conviction. This man will likely want an experienced criminal attorney in North Carolina to examine his case and help him make informed decisions regarding whether to attempt to negotiate a plea deal or to continue to fight the accusations in court.
